[Land]Until the end of 2004, the total administrative area of Hekou District was 3,208,000 mu, 15.66 mu per capita and 37.93 mu per capita in rural area, which was 6 times the per capita number of Shandong Province, and 2.3 times that of Dongying City; and the total agricultural acreage was 585,000 mu, 2.93 mu per capita and 5.04 mu per rural capita.
[Water]There are two sources of usable surface water resources in Hekou District: natural precipitation and water of Yellow River. Meteorological data says that the mean annual precipitation in Hekou District is 538.2mm, and the annual normal surface runoff is about 130,000,000 cubic meters (55,000 cubic meters per sq. km.). The five rural towns, covering a total area of 1,134 sq. km. has a surface runoff of 60,000,000 cubic meters. Water from the Yellow River is the main supply of fresh water for the lack of groundwater resources.
[Minerals]There is an abundant deposit of oil and natural gas under the ground of 3 counties, 3 towns and 1 neighborhood in the District. The annual oil output is 45% of the total in the Victory Oilfield. Geothermal resources are distributed mainly in Xinhu, Taiping, Yihe, Gudao and Wuhaozhuan. The geothermal wells explored in recent years are used for household heating. There are high quality bittern deposits in the coastal area of the District, in which the bittern salinity is 104g/l. Within each liter of bittern, there are 675mg bromide ions, 26mg strontium ions and the same or more amounts of other ions in Sichuan black bittern. The shell deposit is mainly in the west coast with a preliminary evaluated quantity of more than 50,000,000 tons. The calcium carbonate content in shells is high. While the layer of shell deposit is naked, it is easy to exploit. Coal is mainly distributed in Xinhu, Taiping and Yihe. Because it is buried deep underground, so no exploitation has been done yet.
